Zamboanga mayor urges women to be strong amid challenges

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has urged all women to be brave and strong amid the challenges and difficulties in life.

Salazar made the call as he joined on March 8 the Marcha de las Mujeres (Women's March) in Zamboanga City in line with the celebration of the International Women's Day.

She recognized the importance of opportunities and giving women from different sectors a voice in order to make change.

"God will make change happen, starting with you, so please be brave and be strong," she said.

She also called on women, particularly young girls, to stand up and speak for themselves and to believe in their capabilities.

"Never allow people to criticize you, and tell you that you are not working, that you are not capable. I am a woman, I am capable," she said.

The local government of Zamboanga celebrated in solidarity with the nation the International Women's Day, a celebration of women's social, economic, cultural and political successes all over the world. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
