Three Davao City boxers fight for gold

REYMOND Albupera and Glenn Divinagracia of Davao City also joined Emmanuel Canubas in the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg boxing finals set as of press time Sunday, March 11, at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Oroquieta City.

Albupera defeated Rex Ayuban of General Santos City via unanimous decision, 5-0, to aranged a titular showdown with Cagayan de Oro City's Peter John Payla who demolished Jose Angelou Villaverde of South Cotabato in a close encounter, 3-2, in their respective junior boys light flyweight semifinal bouts on March 9, Friday afternoon.

Divinagracia also eliminated his semis foe.

Davao City assistant coach Librado Sagarino Jr., in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said the finals opponents of Davao boxers are strong boxers.

"Pero pag-asa nato ning tulo nga maka-gold ta, dili lang sila magkumpyansa kay kusog ilang mga makaatbang (We are rooting for the three finalists to win golds. They should not be complacent since they will face tight battles against their opponents)," he said.

Davao City already copped four bronzes through brothers Cyril Isaac and Cyril Ivan Revilla, Chad Andrey Fornes and Rocky James Lariosa.

Isaac bowed to General Santos City's Rederick Bautista in a first round referee-stopped contest in their school boys light mosquitoweight semifinal match while Lariosa succumbed to Kidapawan City's Daryll Dave Lagazo, 1-4, in schoolboys paperweight division.
