ANDREA de Guia steered Davao City's team to a gold medal in the girls 4X400m relay event but she failed to meet her five-gold target as the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg athletics competition wrapped up at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletics Center (Mopac) in Oroquieta on March 9, Friday afternoon.
De Guia anchored the city's relay team, which was also composed of 800m gold medalist Reza Tuba, 2,000m walk gold medalist Sharon Gay Marcojos and Erminda Albino, to check in at four minutes and 29.9 seconds.
The 15-year-old De Guia of Doña Carmen Denia National High School earlier wanted to win five golds to give her other teammates a chance to win golds. Their team, however, failed to snatch a medal in the 4X100m relay.
Thus, De Guia ended her Batang Pinoy campaign with four golds having also ruled the girls 1,500m, 800m and 3,000m.
"Okay raman maski wala nako makuha ang lima ka golds, basta nakuha namo ang isa ka gold sa relay, happy na gihapon ko (It's okay if I didn't win all five golds, what’s important was we got at least one relay gold. I'm happy with that)," De Guia said.
She also collected three golds and one silver in the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 held in Davao City last month.
The girls 4X400m relay silver went to Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte team while General Santos City copped the bronze.
Davao del Norte's Rojean Gonzales, Annie Mary Depone, Mariafe Basong and Renalyn Mandreza timed 43:31.1 while General Santos City's Regielyn Batara, Princess Lynn Diano, Rani Dedios and Angeline Bague clocked 4:37.9.
Davao del Norte, however, bounced back by claiming the girls 4X100m relay gold (53.8) over General Santos City (55:1) and South Cotabato (55:3).
General Santos City, meanwhile, topped the boys 4X100m relay event by registering 46:4 seconds over next two placers South Cotabato (47.4) and Hagonoy, Davao del Sur (48:5).
General Santos City also clinched the boys 4X400m gold (3:44.5) at the expense of South Cotabato (3:54.4) and Koronadal City (3:57.7) who salvaged the silver and bronze, respectively.
