A 14-year-old girl drowned in the seawaters off Sitio Basdaku, Barangay Saavedra, Moalboal last Saturday afternoon.
In Carcar City, Toledo City and Argao, five persons were also killed in separate vehicular accidents in the past two days.
In the drowning incident in Moalboal, police identified the fatality as Mary Joy Santander Yurong, a resident of Barangay Tubod, Sibonga.
Investigation showed that Yurong was with her family before the incident happened around 1 p.m.
The other children who saw the incident told the police that Yurong swam to get her buoyant ring that waves had carried away. Yurong then drowned.
The girl’s relatives rushed her to the Badian District Hospital, but the attending doctor declared her dead on arrival.
In Carcar City, motorcycle driver Rodrigo Misa, 39, died at 5 a.m. last Saturday after he crashed into a trailer truck in Barangay Valladolid.
Another motorcycle driver, Ricky Lou Rentoma, 22, also died past 4 a.m. yesterday after he hit a truck parked by the roadside in Valladolid.
Rentoma was thrown off and ran over by another vehicle.
At 9 a.m., motorcycle drivers Christopher Rodriguez, 32, and Jesus Magallanes died in Barangay Binlod, Argao.
Police said that Rodriguez was driving on the southbound lane with a female passenger.
Rodriguez was hit by the motorcycle driven Magallanes, who was with a 72-year-old passenger, when the latter suddenly crossed the national highway. Both passengers survived.
Three hours later, passenger Ken Takatani, 21, died after the motorcycle driven by his brother-in-law fell on the curb in Barangay Media Once, Toledo City.(KAL)
