Suspected rebel’s mom gets death threats

FOLLOWING the arrest of daughter Myles, Grace Cantal-Albasin has received nonstop death threats and messages tagging her and Myles as members of the New People's Army (NPA).

The National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) issued an alert on Sunday, March 11, on the threats.

Grace is a journalist. She was the former editor-in-chief of SunStar Cagayan de Oro for about 3 years. and now the correspondent in Bukidnon of Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Grace said the threat came from a certain “Jeprox Raider” on her Messenger account saying, “Mga NPA mong animal mo (You NPA animals), good luck may the bullet find you.”

Jeprox Raider continued to threaten Grace, this time commenting on a post on her Facebook (FB) page: “sana sa susunod manglaban na lang siya ha, or kayo mismo mga magulang na kinain ng sistema (may she fight back in the future, or you the parents eaten up by the system), may the bullet find you someday, that’s the curse of the public for you, you NPA buttheads.”

Youth activist Myles Albasin, and five companions arrested in Negros were accused by the military of being communist rebels.

All of Grace's FB posts have been the subject of threats by different FB users.

In an interview, Grace said if the threats worsen, she will seek protection from the proper state agencies like the anti-cybercrime unit of the police.

She said she is saving the hate comments to report them to authorities.
