Police full alert for NPA anniversary

Policemen in Negros Occidental remains on full alert status as the anniversary of the New People's Army (NPA) is approaching.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., provincial director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), in a press statement Monday, March 12, said they are not lowering their guards for possible attacks and other lawlessness acts of the communist rebels.

"We are ready," Castil added.

On March 10, military troopers were figured in two clashes with suspected NPA members in Balayan, Batangas province, two weeks before the celebration of their founding anniversary on March 29. It resulted in the injuries of two soldiers.

Castil said the police forces in the province are prepared for any eventualities the rebels might do as part of their tactical offensive operations in relation to their anniversary.

He appealed for the cooperation and help of the public to maintain peace and order in the province. (GYM)
