Love at first bite? Absolutely! One of my favorite home grown bakers, Leny Grace Araneta-Supe, who runs Chocolate Cravings by SupeLea, introduced one of her new products last Christmas season. Her best seller—the velvety, smooth, and oh so sinful chocolate cake— finds new packaging as they’re baked in elegant golden tin cans. And as always, once you take a bite, you just can’t stop!

I’ve always been a fan of her regular, boxed, dense chocolate cake with its soft, moist, and satin-like texture. Leny never scrimps on quality ingredients. This super baker, whose business is just a side hustle, bakes because it is her passion. She is really a full-time banker by profession, being a Service Officer in BDO, Carmen Branch; and uses baking as her way to de-stress from the toxic number-crunching her work entails. Banker by day and baker by night—she is one amazing and inspiring woman!

When she showed me her newest chocolate cake in tin cans, I was thrilled because the new packaging is really classy and delightful. They make perfect gifts, even for those who live in faraway places. In fact, these cakes in tin cans could now easily be sent via LBC. The tins keep the cake moist and, of course, it ensures that they arrive to their intended destination in one piece. Leny said: “The unique presentation of the cake in a tin can makes it surprisingly interesting apart from the fact that it is not cumbersome to bring anywhere. No worries about it falling apart on your lap.”

I asked her about her inspiration to get into this and she was candid enough to say: “I saw Maricar Reyes baking a cake in a tin can in instagram and I told myself – what a swell idea! The concept is novel! That sparked my interest into baking my own version of a cake in a tin can. You see, cakes in tin cans are peculiar; not the usual kind of cakes we see in the market. Often, we see cakes packed in boxes or layered on a table. But this is something else!“

This product is crowned with a lavish coating of tempting dark chocolate ganache. In addition, the cake is also topped with tons of miniature chocolate chips. Each tin is packed with a lot flavor because it also has a chocolate filling; indeed making it a luxurious, decadent dessert like no other. Surprisingly, the cake is not too cloyingly sweet. The flavor is just perfectly fugdy with the luscious, rich chocolaty taste that goes great with a cup of coffee.

Leny really makes it a point to perfect each baked goodie that comes out of her home kitchen. Her treats don’t taste like commercially baked products. Hers are always crafted with the finest ingredients and love. She notes: “Love is the best ingredient! I really make sure I am in a good mood when I bake so it won’t affect the quality of my products. Bake with a smile.”

It is not surprising that this cake in a tin has now become one of her most popular and sellable creations along with the regular chocolate cake. The cake in a tin is 6x2 inches and is only 500 pesos. On the other hand, the starting price of her regular 8x4 inches chocolate cake is 900 pesos. Both are made with premium chocolate and top quality ingredients.

“I never scrimp on that. I will destroy my name if I do!” Leny said emphatically. She also makes cake pops, decorated sugar cookies, tiered fondant wedding cakes, and more. She is also a master of making dessert buffets. In fact, some of her creations have been featured in several international websites. That is not surprising because her cakes do not only look good, but they taste delicious too.
