THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team placed sixth in the Philippine National Police (PNP) category of the first National Swat Challenge held last March 1 to 3 at Team Davao Firing Range along Diversion Road in Maa, Davao City.
DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum lauded the result of the competition during yesterday’s AFP-PNP press forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
He said although they were not able to grab the top spot but being part of the Top 10 out of the 60 teams who participated is already an accomplishment.
“May kasabihan na, it’s not winning the game, it’s about how we play the game. Be assured that Davao City Police Office Swat is preparing not only for similar activity in the future but also for future contingency na posibleng makaharap ng Davao City,” Tagum said.
The tactical competition aimed to determine the response capability of the elite units in addressing general threats that require tactical police intervention as well as to test the stamina, speed, strength, skill and spirit of the Swat members.
The highly-trained elite tactical units of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force underwent the 10 challenging and action-packed stages with 411 rounds of ammunition for pistol and 304 minimum rounds for rifle. The competition includes Pistol/Rifle Marksmanship, Close Quarter Battle, Night Raid, Bus Assault/Terrorist Attack, and Physical Agility/Obstacle Course.

“Considering that they are just newcomers in the game kasi mga bagohan pa to, first time na sumama sa competition, but yet they survive and pumasok sila sa Top 10, that is, I think good enough for us,” Tagum said.
He assured that the Davao City Swat team will continue to improve its tactical capacity to respond to eventualities.
“The purpose why we joined the National Swat competition is to prepare them for the real game of life which is to rescue hostages and fight terrorist na posibleng pumasok sa Davao City,” he said.
