LTO still waiting for new speed guns

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Davao Wednesday, March 14, said it stopped operating against speed limit violators in Davao City as they are still waiting for new speed guns after the old ones conked out.

Jun Antonio, chief of the law enforcement unit of LTO-Davao Region, Wednesday said during a press forum that since September 2017, they ceased their operations focusing on erring drivers violating the speed limit ordinance. But, the Davao City Traffic and Transport Management Office are still at it.

“We are waiting for our speed guns to arrive,” Antonio said.

Antonio said that the City Government of Davao will provide them brand new speed guns, however, he is not certain when it would be turned over to them.

“I have heard murag si Mayor Inday ata ang muhatag sa among speed gun so until then maghulat sa mi (I've heard the mayor ii giving us speed guns so we will wait for that),” he said.

Antonio said they had seven speed guns but these no longer take accurate measures.

“Daghan naman gud mu-question sa speed gun and then murag kailangan na i-calibrate kay dugay na 'to basin magkaroon ng technicalities muabot ang panahon nga naay mocomplain so dili man to amoa purchase man to sa city so giundangan nalang sa namo (Many questioned the accuracy of our speed guns and it need to be recalibrated because of the period of time it has been with us. We could get in trouble because of technicalities that is why we stopped it),” he said.

The CTTMO, meanwhile, has four working speed guns to apprehend violators of the 30 to 60 kilometers per hour speed limits in the city as provided in Executive Order No. 39 series of 2013.
