CCPO denies conducting surveillance inside campus

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) denied the accusations hurled against them by cause-oriented group Anakbayan UP Cebu.

CCPO Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria said that one of the personnel from the City Mobile Force Company who was photographed withdrawing money from a Landbank inside the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu campus was not conducting surveillance.

“There were no directives given to conduct surveillance on them. They are not criminals so unless they are, there won’t be any monitoring against them,” Doria said.

In a Facebook post, the group slammed the military and police for the acts of “intimidation and surveillance inside the university,” “The Sotto-Enrile Accord prohibits any military or police presence in all UP campuses,” it said.

“We received reports from students that they were scared. If the authorities are watching us then we are also on alert,” said Joisa Cesista of Anakbayan Cebu.

She said the police should respect the existing agreement. “It’s not like there aren’t other automated teller machines in other places aside from the one inside our campus,” she said.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command had announced that it planned to conduct a dialogue with faculties from other universities after a UP Masscom alumna was caught in Negros Oriental with five others after an alleged armed encounter. (JOB)
