Basilan gov’t employee arrested in drug bust

A GOVERNMENT employee was arrested while a village watchman eluded arrest in an anti-illegal drug operations in the province of Basilan, the police reported Friday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspect as Arnel Bading, 37, an employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DENR-ARMM).

Galvez said that Bading’s companion, Alex Gayacao, 36, a village watchman, eluded arrest.

She said Gayacao, who was the target of the drug bust, escaped upon sensing the presence of lawmen leaving behind Bading.

She said the arresting team confiscated from the possession of Bading a heat-sealed plastic sachet of crystal meth.
