Kapuso stars heat up Araw ng Dabaw celebration

DABAWENYO fans on have once again given a chance to watch in person their favorite showbiz stars who trooped to Davao City to join in the 81st Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

This as they feasted on 50 “lechon baka,” part of the food packs that the City Government distributed Friday to thousands of participants and spectators of the Parada Dabawenyo, a civic-military parade that culminated the week-long festivities.

More than 400 contingents participated in the Parada that lasted for five hours, from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

Lawyer Raul Nadela Jr., chief of staff of the City Mayor’s Office, said the distribution of the food packs was a show of appreciation to those who found their way to join in the city’s celebration.

“The City Government is very thankful to those who come and join us in our celebration. The Araw ng Davao is really for them,” he said.

Leading the number of showbiz personalities who graced the Parada, to the delight of their fans, were the Kapuso stars, led by the main cast of the upcoming GMA teleserye “The Cure” — Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado and multitalented actor Tom Rodriguez.

They were joined onboard the Kapuso Float by actors behind Afternoon Prime’s “The Stepdaughters” — real life couple Miss World 2013 Megan Young and Mikael Daez, and Katrina Halili.

In a press briefing, the stars of the afternoon show have only good impression of the city. They cited the city's strict implementation of the "No Smoking Ordinance" and the cleanliness of the city.

"Makita naman na talagang malinis ang Davao City. The people, too, are very receptive," Young said.

The five GMA stars later performed live at The Annex of SM City Davao, for the Kapuso Mall Show where they entertained thousands of Dabawenyo fans with songs and dances.

“We have always been part of Araw ng Dabaw and this year is no exception,” GMA Regional TV department vice president and head Oliver Amoroso said.

“We are bringing some of our biggest stars to celebrate with our Kapusong Dabawenyos in the city’s founding anniversary as a testament to our gratitude for keeping us the leading broadcast network all over the Philippines,” he added.
