CAGAYAN de Oro City National High School (CDONHS) ended up with two championship rings at the end of the 2nd CdeO Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament here on Sunday at the Nazareth gym.
The City High Tigers lorded it over in the 17-under and 15-under boys divisions at the expense of the equally-strong MOGCHS and Carmen National High School, respectively.
The Tigers earned their second-straight 17-under title after a morale-boosting 83-63 conquest of archrival Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS).
From a tight first half battle, the Tigers slowly pulled away behind the guns of MVP Angelo Mercado.
Mercado, who came up with 26 points, racked up three-straight 3-pointers to give the Tigers a comfortable lead that swelled to as much as 22 points.
The Cavaliers settled for second, while Macasandig National High School and Talakag National High School checked in third and fourth, respectively.
City High’s younger team, the Jr. Tigers, meanwhile bagged the 15-under crown after a crushing 74-65 win over Carmen National High School Jr. Thunders.
The Jr. Tigers waxed hot early, unleashing a 18-5 first quarter run to win the match against the Jr. Thunders with plenty to spare.
With the Thunders at second place, the MOGCHS Legends and Macasandig NHS settled for third and fourth, in that order.
Tournament director Raul Fuentes named the 17-under’s mythical five as
Wilkens Vallente (Macasandig), Keanard Mapano (Talakag), Roniel Olarte (MOGCHS), Jesua Pabilona (City High) and Paul Guidaben (City High).
Angelo Mercado took the MVP trophy, while his cousin Carlo Mercado was chosen as most improved player.
The 15-under’s mythical five were John Rey Relevo (Macasandig), Justin Angelo Maputi (MOGCHS), John Stanley Jaraula (Carmen), Al Josua Arciallas (City High) and Von Rosete (City High).
Mark Tagocon got the MVP, while Joel Colubia snared the most improved player award.
Labadan was adjudged as best coach.
