‘Barangay, SK polls to push through’

SENATOR Cynthia Villar and Negros Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez said they believed the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will push through on May 14.

Villar said that Congress has only until Wednesday for their Lenten Break.

"Only three days are left. How can you pass a law in three days? I don’t know why Congress is passing the postponement again of the barangay elections. It is giving false hope and confusion to the people,” she said.

Benitez said that the postponement is unlikely.

He said they will pass the postponement measure on Monday, but based on his latest talk with Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, he said that the postponement faces a rough sailing in the Senate.

The Commission on Elections has long been prepared for the Barangay and SK elections and that the Provincial Joint Security Control Center was already convened in the province on Thursday. (TDE)
