Baguio mayor backs construction of new parking facility

BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan is supporting plans to transfer Igorot Park to give way to a parking facility.

Domogan said in his weekly “Uganayang Panglungsod” program, the move is badly needed by the city because of the worsening problem of traffic. “It will push through.”

The City Council Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation, and Traffic Legislation recommended the Construction of a multi-level parking facility at the former site of the old auditorium or present pay parking area.

An alternative proposal for the construction of a multi-level parking at the site of the Igorot garden and former fire station fronting Bayanihan Hotel, in effect, the Igorot Garden will be transferred to the existing Ganza Parking.

The move of Councilors Benny Bomogao, Michael Lawana, and Faustino Olowan is related to previous motions made in the council over the years.

Bomogao said since the committee report has been approved, it is now up to Domogan to create a Technical Working Group for plans to take shape with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority before the building may be funded through a Public Private Partnership or a Build Operate and Transfer deal.
