PHONE Replacement

It’s been three years already since I got my iPhone 6 and it’s definitely showing its age. After launching the Messages app, I need to wait about two or three seconds more before I can use it because it needs to load things up. Sure, you can always tell me that I can have the battery replaced. But let’s face it, this phone is old. To me, it’s the equivalent of a Pentium IV in the age of Xeon processors.

It having 16GB of storage only is something to add to the frustration. Currently, I can’t take as much photos and shoot that many videos with it because of, well, lack of space. So I need big storage. I have Google Drive setup and I can always back up whatever photos and videos I have already in my Camera Roll. Unfortunately, backing it up uses too much data and I have limited mobile data allocation. I’m a cheapskate like that. So I only back up when connected to a reliable wireless network.

After all these years of using this phone and the kind of content I consume on a daily basis, I’m definitely in for a bigger phone already.

So, with those in mind, here are my top five (in no particular order) smartphones to replace my ageing iPhone 6.

Google Pixel 2 XL

iPhone 8 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S9+

iPhone 7 Plus

Huawei P10 Plus

If you were to change your phone today, what would be your top five picks?
