House tribunal junks poll protest vs Gasataya

THE House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) in Quezon City denied the motion for reconsideration filed by former Bacolod City vice mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson on his electoral protest against Representative Greg Gasataya for lack of merit.

Gasataya said Sunday, March 18, that he received the notice last week signed by HRET Secretary Girlie Salarda.

He said the HRET issued the resolution on February 22 this year.

The order stated that the Tribunal denies protestant’s motion for reconsideration dated December 15, 2017, filed on December 18, 2017, for lack of merit as no new relevant matter has been raised therein that would justify the reversal or modification of the Resolution of the Tribunal dated November 23, 2017.

On November 23, the HRET dismissed the electoral protest filed by Sayson against Gasataya.

The tribunal said the protestee anchored his motion on two grounds. First, he reiterated that the petition failed to allege the specific acts or omissions constituting the electoral frauds, anomalies, or irregularities in the contested precincts.

And the particular clustered precincts where the alleged anomalies, or irregularities, or fraud occurred or were committed.

Gasataya said he is thankful that the motion for reconsideration was denied by HRET.

“From the start, we did not commit any electoral fraud,” he said.

“This is a vindication and we can now concentrate on our work for delivering the services to the people of Bacolod,” he added.
