Mayor salutes PMA graduates

BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan congratulated the 12 Cordillerans who graduated from the 282 strong PMA "Alab-Tala" Class of 2018.

During the commencement exercise at Fort Del Pilar, Domogan said their graduation from the academy is a manifestation that the Cordillerans continue to produce good graduates who even excel and be part of the top 10 like 1st Class Cadets and now 2nd Lieutenants Ricardo Liwaden and Paolo Briones.

Majority of the Cordilleran graduates were women while most came from Mountain Province and Baguio City.

"We hope these Cordillerans who have graduated in the country’s premiere military academy may serve as an example for the youth to follow," Domogan said.

The local chief executive hopes the youth would also emulate their fellow Cordillerans and strive to improve their future by having a good education.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte called on the new members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to continue to adhere to their mandate of service for the Filipino and their country.

The President reminded the new graduates not to be afraid of the human rights groups and the International Criminal Courts.

"If it is within the law and your mandate, you should fulfill it with your duties and I will answer for you," Duterte said.

Duterte also advised all soldiers, specifically the commanders, to refrain from giving any comments since it would only be him who will answer for whatever result any actions done by the military personnel who have followed their orders lawfully against terrorists and illegal drugs.

Duterte also explained his decision to withdraw from the Rome Statute, which created the International Criminal Courts, since this was not effective in the country for not being published in the Philippine Gazette, which is a requirement for any treaty to be part of the laws of the country.

The President also called on remaining members to withdraw from the ICC.

"There were those who said it would take about a year before any withdrawal would take effect. You know, if it is not published there is no law. So there is no reason to withdraw something which is not existing," said Duterte.
