Pa torches 3-year-old daughter

A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl died after her own father, who was drunk, set her on fire.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Sunday at their home at Purok 26, Malagamot, Barangay Panacan, Davao City.

The suspect, identified as Randy Nueva Cadiente, 44, married, construction worker was reportedly drunk when he did the dastardly act.

Based on initial investigations of the police, Leonardo Contemplo Abli, a witness to the incident, said that around 8 p.m., Abli went home to sleep, but was awakened by the cry of the victim.

Upon inspecting, Abli saw that the victim was on fire, thus he immediately put out the fire by pouring water to the victim and immediately called Central 911.

The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) doctors immediately attended to the child who later died.

The suspect said that he did not know what he was doing but revealed that he got angry with the child for her nonstop crying.

Chief Inspector Emerson Pugong, chief of Sasa Police Station, suspected that the father's anger stems from his wife's separation with him.

"Allegedly, hiwalay sila sa kanyang asawa, and accordingly nasa Malungon, Sarangani province itong asawa niya during the incident," Pugong said.

Recovered at the house of the suspect is one gallon of kerosene and a disposable lighter.

Frustrated parricide case will be filed against the suspect who is now under the custody of the Sasa police.
