CCPO ‘incompetent’ intelligence gatherers

ALTHOUGH he believes that several shooting incidents in the city are not related, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña described police intelligence gathering as weak.

Osmeña’s statement came after another ambush involving a jail officer happened yesterday morning near an intersection on M. Velez St. in Barangay Guadalupe.

“That’s the problem of our police department here, they’re very incompetent in intelligence-gathering. They have to use assets,” he told reporters.

Osmeña said the police should respond to all the complaints the public reports to them.

“Please react to the complaints you get from the public because there is a connection when you react even with the small complaints. The more police will react, the more people who will report, then they will start giving information on drugs, criminals and suspicious characters,” he said.

The mayor said he has no problem with the police, though, particularly that the Cebu City Police Office is under the watch of Senior Supt. Joel Doria. (RVC)
