Capitol condolences

MEMBERS of the Provincial Board (PB) condemned the murder of San Fernando Councilor Alexander Alicaway.

The PB led by Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale approved a resolution sponsored by PB Member Raul Bacaltos expressing their “deepest condolences and sympathy” to Alicaway’s family.

The PB approved the resolution during their out-of-town session in Balamban yesterday.

Meanwhile, PB Member Earl Tidy Oyas, who represents the Philippine Councilors’ League in the PB, said he is upset about the attacks on local legislators like Alicaway.

“If he had issued any statement or had ordered an investigation on a particular issue, it is only for the purpose of legislation. They shouldn’t kill the councilor for doing his job,” Oyas told reporters yesterday.

Alicaway, 49, was walking toward the Municipal Hall last week when he was shot and killed by two unidentified assailants.

His family believes that Alicaway’s murder was related to his work as a councilor.

Oyas, who knew Alicaway, described the latter as a kind person who was not involved in illegal activities.

Gov. Hilario Davide III assured the family that they would get financial aid. (JKV)
