Duterte to spend birthday, Holy Week in Davao

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will spend Holy Week, as well as his birthday in his hometown Davao City, Malacañang said Thursday, March 22.

During the Holy Week last year, Duterte embarked on state visits in three Middle East countries. But this time, the President preferred to stay home with his family, said his spokesperson, Secretary Harry Roque Jr.

"He will be in Davao. The President will just be in Davao this coming Holy Week. He will also have several trips after Holy Week," Roque told reporters in Palace.

This year's Holy Week will begin on March 25, Palm Sunday, and end on April 1, Easter Sunday.

Filipinos observed Holy week on April 9 to April 15 last year. The President took trips to three countries in Middle East -- Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar -- on April 10 to 16, 2017.

This coming Holy Week, the President will also celebrate his birthday on March 28.

Duterte, who will turn 73 on March 28, is expected to celebrate his birthday at home. Last year, Duterte marked his birthday "quietly without fanfare."

"The President is merely at home during his birthday. Perhaps, he would hold a celebration after his birthday," Roque said. (SunStar Philippines)
