Japanese, Korean investors eyeing Misamis Oriental

TWO foreign investors have expressed interest in investing in Misamis Oriental particularly in the tourism, agribusiness and energy sectors.

According to Provincial Information Officer Nicole Managbanag, Korean and Japanese investors met with Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano last week to talk about their plans to invest in the province.

Managbanag said the Korean investor expressed interest in putting up a $50-million hotel situated in the 1.5-hectare area in Laguindingan, near the airport, to accommodate the rising number of tourists coming in and out of Misamis Oriental.

"Convenient para sa mga (It will be a convenience to the) stranded passengers who wants to sleep over doon sa area para hindi ma late sa flight (in the area so they won't be late for their flights)," Managbanag added.

A Japanese investor, meanwhile, is also planning on investing in the province. The Japanese investor is seeking a 3,000-hectare land area anywhere in Misamis Oriental which will be used to put up a solar energy and palm oil plantations.

The provincial information officer said the solar energy plant will be used an additional energy source for the province.

However, looking for a large area, a 3,000-hectare land area, proved to be a difficult task.

"It’s a big land area ang hiningi ng (requested by the) Japanese investor and parang hindi kaya, parang dalawang municipalities ang i-cater nyan if ever (it will be difficult, it wll probably cater two municipalities, if ever), so I don't know if ang plano ni gov is per municipality magkuha sya or maghanap sya ng area na maka-cater ng 3,000 hectare (what will be plan of Governor Emano, if he will be getting a certain land area per municipality or if he will be looking for an area of 3,000 hectare as a whole)," Managbanag said.

The Misamis Oriental governor, for his part, remains optimistic of the foreign investors coming in to invest in the province.

"This is a good development. This indicates that Misamis Oriental continues to soar high when it comes to investments, job generation and economic growth," Emano said.
