PCOO recalls press ID full of grammatical errors

THE Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) recalled Thursday, March 22, the press identification (ID) cards issued to the Malacañang Press Corps after controversy erupted over its numerous grammatical errors.

At the same time, Communications Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar said in a statement that he has ordered an investigation into the supposed "breach of protocol on four counts."

"[It's a] breach of protocol on four counts: First, staff did not show the backflip of the ID to me. Second, IPC (International Press Center) did not return the final design for my approval. Third, IPC used an e-signature without my permission. [And] fourth, IPC used the wrong e-signature," he said.

It was the latest blunder by the PCOO's News and Information Bureau (NIB), which issued the press ID. On March 19, the NIB released to the media an official transcript of a radio interview supposedly by President Rodrigo Duterte.

It later turned out that the interview was given by an impersonator of the President. The PCOO apologized for the error.

The new press ID bears Andanar’s signature.

The first paragraph reads: "This card to be worn during presidential coverage, but subject to specific accreditation/security requirements. It should be worn all times in entering Malacañang and while inside the Palace grounds."

It also states that the ID card "is non-transferable and void if altered this card remains property of Presidential Communications Office."

It further states: “Upon expiration or when resigns from his or her agency, this card should be returning without delay to the International Press Center, G/F National Press Club, Magallanes Drive Intramuros, Manila." (Ruth Abbey Gita/SunStar Philippines)
