A sweet escape

GOODBYE clouds of gray, hello skies of blue. Though summer is known to be the only time when one can unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the beach, the demands of life nowadays—work, heavy traffic etc.—make taking a break hard to achieve.

However, one can enjoy a little island vibe in the heart of the city specifically at Unit 6, St. Patrick’s Square on Don Ramon Aboitiz St., Cebu City. KauKau Fusion Resto, a beach-themed restaurant that offers quality, home-cooked meals and owned by self-taught chef and entrepreneur Janden Alejandria, is the place to visit.

This two-year-old restaurant was formerly nestled at 57 P. Almendras St., Mabolo, Cebu City. Transferring to another place was a hard decision since the old location was popular among tourists. But the thought of introducing the restaurant to the locals in a new location, and giving the customers more convenience such as parking spaces, encouraged Janden to transfer.

With its beach printed wall and set up, reggae music, seashell shaped plates, tiki statues, surfboards, refreshing drinks and mouth-watering dishes, one would surely think that he is dining in a beach shack while enjoying the view of the jewel-blue colored ocean.

Making this escapade more laid-back is the palatable food the restaurant offers mostly featuring its special fresh tomato sauce: Osso Buco, a Milanese specialty of cross-cut veal shanks braised with vegetables; KauKau Ribs, Beef Steak, Seafood Pasta in Olive Oil and Hawaiian Pizza. Its unlimited chicken wings in the flavors of chicken parmesan, classic and spicy buffalo are also a popular demand among customers. For the drinks, the thirst-quencher frozen moringga is a must-try.

Take a little break and visit KauKau Fusion Resto open from Sunday until Friday, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
