Council to meet 2 SRP lot buyers

THE Cebu City Council has asked two developers and some heads of office in City Hall to shed light on the sale of 45.2 hectares in the South Road Properties (SRP) in 2015.

The move came after Councilor Joel Garganera delivered a privilege speech last Tuesday on the construction of a sports facility at the SRP.

An executive session with Ayala Land Inc., SM Prime Holdings Inc. and the City Planning Office is scheduled on May 8.

While he supports the project, Garganera said that Mayor Tomas Osmeña should allow the Council to appropriate 10 hectares of the lots in SRP that are not part of the previous sale for the facility.

Garganera’s statement came after Osmeña announced that the sports facility will be built on the lots that were earlier bought by the consortium of Ayala and SM.

Osmeña earlier said the sale done during the previous administration is illegal.

“What bothers me is the fact that our own mayor believes he can unilaterally declare a P16.7-billion contract invalid and illegal. Mr. Chair, as members of the legislative, we are all aware that such judgment should be left to the courts,” Garganera said.

The City awarded the lot to the consortium last July 21, 2015. The deal was closed at P16.76 billion. (RVC)
