2 hired shooters nabbed for killing ex-inmate

ERIC’s (real name withheld) whole body shook after he shot dead a former inmate of the Cebu City Jail in Barangay San Nicolas last Saturday afternoon.

Eric is 17 and would’ve wanted to become a policeman.

“Na-trauma ug nakuyawan ko sa nahitabo. Pero tungod sa kwarta maong nahimo to nako,” he told reporters inside the office of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Eric was arrested along with 18-year-old Roy (who requested anonymity) after they killed Niño Tañajura, who was standing on the sidewalk with his girlfriend prior to the incident.

They were allegedly given P45,000 by a big time drug personality to kill Tañajura.

“Mang-tumbling man to siya. Tag P45,000 apil na armas,” Roy said.

Eric said he was supposed to use the money to buy cake and celebrate his mother’s birthday yesterday.

But instead of his mother’s smile, he was greeted with tears when police officers arrested him in their house in Sitio Bato, Ba- rangay Ermita.

Roy, for his part, said that after they agreed to do the job, a man, whom they claimed they didn’t know delivered two caliber .45 pistols to their house.

Eric said that he fired four shots at Tañajura while Roy confessed that he fired five.

SPO1 Winston Ybañez, homicide investigator, said that the two were arrested after police pursued them following the attack.

Ybañez said that the killing of Tañajura was drug-related.

“The drug personality whom they’re working with once operated in Ermita but has not moved to Mindanao. He contacted them through texts,” Ybañez said.

Ybañez warned parents to look after their children to prevent them from being exposed to bad elements.

“Even if he’s (Eric) a minor, he can still go to jail. We will also use their statements against the alleged mastermind for a case build-up but they will still face cases for murder. We’ll see how their confessions will fare in court,” he said. (JOB)
