De Leon: The viral and salvific story of the Broom Man

WHAT was supposed to be a humorous post turned out to be viral, and now an inspiring one.

Finally holding a college diploma after years of late nights, early mornings and bleeding gives a huge sense of achievement, especially for those who had to balance studying with work.

Dahn J. Saliendra is among that respected crowd of working students and for his graduation picture, he opted to immortalize his bond with a broom, which was more than just a prop to him.

The 26-year-old Dahn took up Bachelor of Science in Education major in Mathematics (BSEd-Math) from the Notre Dame of Marbel University.

The kicker?

It took him six years to finish his four-year program because he needed to hustle out everything in between.

He paid his way through college cleaning the university grounds and doing paperwork.

In his Facebook post he said, "Noong una ay nahihiya pang humawak ng walis. Ngunit sa anim na taon ba namang pagsasama pati sa pictorial, aba'y akin nang isinama sapagkat kasama sya sa pagpupugay na ito."

What a legend, right?

Well, that's life, millennials. Despite our age and gender, we all have brooms and crosses to bear. And of course, who would not be hesitant and resistant to carry these?

But let's all remember that at the end of the climb, the grind, lonely nights and the countless prayers, the same broom that gave us suffering will be the same cross that will bring us glory and immortality. (Oh that's deep, amen!)

Have a blessed Holy week, friends!
