COMPOSTELA Valley 1st District Representative Maria Carmen "Maricar" Zamora will never forget the date March 15, 2018, the day she wore her Lieutenant Colonel, (Res) Philippine Army (PA) rank officially.

The date also marked three other most significant moments in her life.

Aside from her donning of Lieutenant Colonel Rank as Reserve Officer and oath-taking ceremony held at the Pavilion of Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Mankilam, Tagum City, Rep. Zamora also celebrated her silver anniversary in politics on this date.

It made her look back to what she used to be as a leader. "I evolve and transform from a young leader who was only concerned about basketball and volleyball, to a woman leader who is now more concerned on the maternal and child health care," Zamora said.

But Zamora never contented herself on the roles that she already has being a representative in Congress, as she lifts her role to the national security, proving that a woman can actually be part of the country's national security.

She even recalled how she got the rank and how it did not come easy for her to earn it.

"At first I thought it was easy for me to earn my rank as I'm already a congresswoman," she said, adding that she thought first of just complying all the needed documents and papers to earn the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

But she realized the rank is just secondary to learning. With the encouragement of her mentor, Rep. Bai Sandra Sema of the 1st District of Maguindanao, she took the road less travelled, especially by many politicians like her.

She enrolled at the National Defense College of the Philippines and took Masters in National Security Administration.

The date of her donning of rank is also very significant to her as the month of March is Women's Month.

With this, she took the opportunity to encourage the women to be involved in national security saying, "Every woman can do their role in national security as it's not just a military dimension, national security is also political, economic, socio-cultural, techno-scientific, and environmental dimension."

Lastly, she viewed the gracing of the affair by none other than National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana as one of the significant moments in her life.

During the affair, she thanked the National Defense department for the opportunity for her being a scholar as a student in Masters in National Security Administration. Through this, she was able to be toured in areas where our national security is of most vital and called for.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials of the Philippine Army, starting with Col. Maning Tawantawan, group commander of 11th Regional Community Defense Group, who gave the opening remarks, Comm. Samuel Felix, Lt. Gen. Benjie Madrigal who assisted Sec. Lorenzana in the donning of rank to Zamora, Maj. Gen. Noel C. Clement, Lt. Col. Jayvee Tyron Uy, Comval governor, who accepted the new commissioned officer, Lt. Col. Zamora, to 1103rd Ready Reserve Battalion among many others.
