Abu Sayyaf leader surrenders in Basilan

ONE of the leaders of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered, along with 12 followers, to the authorities in Basilan province Wednesday morning, March 28, a top military official said.

Nurhassan Jamiri, one of the ASG leaders based in Basilan, surrendered to the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion in Lamitan City, Basilan.

With this surrender, only Furuji Indama remains the ASG leader in Basilan.

The Scout Ranger battalion turned Jamiri and his followers over to Brigadier General Juvymax Uy, Philippine Army 104th Infantry Brigade commander.

“They have to undergo the normal process like documentation and debriefing,” Uy said.

Jamiri was reported to have been killed in several occasions, only to surface and commit atrocities. (SunStar Philippines)
