City government turned-over Php840t to drug surrenderees

AROUND P840 thousand worth of financial assistance was given to drug surrenderees on March 28 at the Iloilo City Hall’s Penthouse II which was turned over by the Iloilo city government.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed the distribution of P10,000 financial assistance to each 84 drug surrenderees.

There were 6 in Arevalo, 28 in Lapaz/Lapuz, 17 in Jaro, 13 in Molo, 8 in Mandurriao and 12 for City Proper.

Out of 209, there were 84 surrenderees that were able to comply the requirements and passed the assessments.

The P5,000 of total distributed funds should be returned to the city government for P83 per month and the remaining P5,000 will be their maintaining capital. After they will be able to pay back the total amount, they can renew it again.

To be able to avail the aftercare program, the individual should graduate on the rehabilitation program and comply the skills training they have selected.

According to CSWDO focal person Teresa Gelogo, the supposed total fund amounts to P1 million however they allocated the P160 thousand for the capability building of these surrenderees.

Through capability building, they will be educated on the management of their business or livelihood. This will be held for the next month.

The CSWDO will also conduct a monitoring to ensure the funds was properly used by these surrenderees.

There will be designated coordinators for the monitoring per district and they conduct monthly meeting.

Aside from CSWDO, the staffs of Community Change Center will have a monthly values formation.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development also provides a separate amount of P840 thousand for the laundry service and extended the assistance to 603,500 for the individual members.
