P17.4-M weed seized in Kalinga

THREE regional offices of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), together with the Army and local police, torched marijuana worth P17.48 million in simultaneous eradication drives in Kalinga over the weekend.

PDEA agents from Cordillera, Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions took part in the destruction of the illegal plants.

In Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, law enforcers destroyed six marijuana cultivation sites planted with 40,000 fully-grown marijuana and 9,600 marijuana seedlings with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of P8,384,000.

Government troops, meanwhile, uprooted and burned in Barangay Buscalan, Tinglayan some 44,700 fully-grown marijuana and 3,900 marijuana seedlings sourced from nine plantation sites.

The illegal plant destroyed in Buscalan were valued at P9.096 million, based on Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) estimates.

The anti-illegal drug operations came days after operatives set on fire some P2.04 million worth of marijuana in Kibungan, Benguet.

A football coach got a red card after being arrested with P900,000 worth of marijuana at a checkpoint, also in Buscalan.

Joint agents from the PDEA and local police arrested Billy Jack Magana Sanchez, 24 years old and resident of Timog Park Homes, Angeles, Pampanga, after they found four marijuana bricks and six tubular marijuana stalks packed in his bag.

The illegal plant weighing 11,170 grams were valued by the DDB to be worth P941.25 million.

Sanchez is now detained at the Tinglayan Police Station pending the filing of a case for violation of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as "The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002".
