Limpag: Samsung shows off digital home

FROM a cinema-like experience in watching movies on the living room television to a wireless speaker that allows members of the family to play and share the songs that are in their phones, Samsung has a product that will upgrade the consumer experience, its officials said in a recent interview.

Samsung Philippines officials were in Cebu last Nov. 10 for their Samsung Happy Home road show that featured products from ovens to washing machines, TVs, refrigerators and home entertainment systems.

The Samsung Happy Home initiative aims to “show how families can enjoy the many conveniences and possibilities made possible by Samsung products,” the company said.

When it comes to televisions, Samsung is the top brand in the Philippines, said Samsung Philippines product manager for television Angelo Visaya. The company corners 45 percent of the TV market, he said.

Visaya highlighted the company’s latest product, the SUHD TV, which he said provides a superior viewing experience at home. The unit provides “64 times more color expression than conventional TVs and are 2.5 times brighter than conventional UHD TVs,” Samsung said in its products specifications sheet.

The Samsung officials also showed off the “curved soundbar” of their TV sets. The company said this “has a multi-channel speaker and side speakers that enhance the surround sound and provide more clarity for a better viewing experience.”

During the technological theater that the company staged for bloggers and journalists who viewed the exhibit, the “family” that moved into the house with the new Samsung products were shown to be watching a Jurassic Park movie and the dinosaurs, and their roars, were indeed realistic.

The officials also pointed out their smart ovens with new cooking features: oil-free frying and easy grilling.

When asked how consumers were responding to new products like the wireless speaker for the living room that produced a high-fidelity, 360-degree sound, Visaya said they have gotten good feedback.

The Samsung officials also said that innovation in their TVs and the smartphones unit has had a “halo effect” on the other device categories.

Visaya said that while there are cheaper brands in the market, consumers are mindful of “quality and innovation.”

“We make products that last for years,” he said in an interview. He said their products are known to be durable and innovative.

Visaya also said consumers “want to be affiliated with a premium brand.”
