Sinulog champion eyes Aliwan Fest

THE Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) will extend financial assistance to pay for the transportation expenses of Cebu’s official delegates in the Aliwan Fiesta, an annual event that gathers different cultural festivals of the Philippines.

Current Sinulog free interpretation champion Tribu Kandaya of the Municipality of Daanbantayan and Sinulog Festival Queen Shaila Mae Roberta of Talisay City will be representing Cebu in the fiesta on April 26 to 28. Sinulog program head Jess dela Cruz said that SFI is willing to help the delegates pay for their travel to Pasay City.

Sinulog-based champion Carcar City Division was also invited to represent Cebu, but they declined due to budget constraints.

Dela Cruz said that Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot has already sent a letter of request to SFI.

In the letter, Loot attached a budget summary amounting to P4 million for their fare, food, and props.

Meanwhile, Talisay has asked SFI to help them pay for Roberta and her team’s transportation.

“We brought up the two letters during the Sinulog board meeting. It will be discussed during the executive committee meeting,” dela Cruz said.

Organizers of the Aliwan will also give a cash subsidy of P175,000 to the dancing delegates, and a separate subsidy for the festival queen. Aliwan will also shoulder the accommodation of the delegates.

Dela Cruz said that according to Loot, their municipal government will also ask for a cash assistance of P1.1 million from the Province. (RTF)
