Cafgu member shot dead in Bohol

A PARAMILITARY member was shot dead by three unidentified assailants at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Sitio Matin-ao, Barangay Campagao, Bilar, Bohol.

Police identified the fatality as Paulino Basbas Banga, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

The 53-year-old native of Dagohoy, Bilar was a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) and was assigned in Magsay-say, Sevilla, Bohol.

Initial investigation showed the victim was driving his service motorcycle along Campagao-Dagohoy Barangay Road, towards his home in Dagohoy.

Banga failed to notice that the three assailants on board a maroon motorcycle with no license plate were following him. One of the men then shot him.

The victim fell with his motorcycle on the road.

A witness told the police that two men disembarked and approached Banga. One of them forcibly opened the utility box of Banga's motorcycle, while the other pulled the victim.

The driver shot Banga twice. The two men boarded the motorcycle and left the place.

Investigators recovered three pieces of fired cartridge cases and and deformed fired bullet of a .45 pistol.

Bilar Municipal Health Officer Dr. Evangiline Delfin discovered another slug in the exit wound of the victim during her examination.

The police are still investigating the motive behind the attack. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
