What’s next for the Lims?

MOVIE. The Visayan romantic-comedy “Magbuwag Ta Kay...” was a big success in terms of viewership in cinemas, so I should congratulate film producers Charles and Sunshine Lim of Heritage Productions as well as lead stars Akiko Solon and Ruwel Ucat for a job well done. The flick enjoyed tremendous success at the tills and such could be attributed to the positive response of the movie-going public.

NEXT FILM. Will there be a next film after “Magbuwag Ta Kay...”? I have yet to talk to the Lim couple on this matter and I hope their reply would be in the affirmative. After all, other local stars are just waiting to be tapped by film producers.

DIRECTOR. Ysabelle Peach Caparas will have her first directorial job in “Jacqueline Comes Home,” a Visayan movie on the abduction of the Chiong sisters in 1997. Peach is the daughter of “massacre” film director Carlo J. Caparas. Her brother CJ will also appear in the movie aside from being its creative consultant.

ASSISTANT. So what will her famous dad do during the filming of “Jacqueline Comes Home?” I learned that this time, he will assist Peach in her directorial assignment, guiding her along the way, making sure that the finished product would be a quality flick. With Direk Carlo assisting Peach, nothing can go wrong. Shooting starts April 12 in Carcar City.

HOPE. I hope this upcoming film could entice other filmmakers to produce their own Visayan movies. The eventual revival or “resurrection” of the local film industry is still possible.
