LTFRB hunts for colorum vans on Easter Sunday

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 apprehended three colorum or unauthorized vans during their Easter Sunday operation.

This followed the apprehension of a van and a taxi last Thursday, also for operating without a franchise.

This was part of LTFRB’s Holy Week Oplan Biyaheng Ayos 2018. Instead of hunting for eggs, as children did in Easter parties, the enforcers hunted for colorum vehicles.

Director Ahmed Cuizon said the operators of the seized vehicles will have to pay P200,000 each as fine, based on Joint Memorandum Order (JAO) 2014-001.

The JAO was jointly issued by LTFRB and Land Transportation Office (LTO), and their mother agency, Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Of the three vans, Cuizon said a Toyota Grandia (ADN 3219) was apprehended In Tabok, Mandaue City. It was carrying passengers from Bogo City.

The two others are Toyota Hi-Ace vans (ACS-5410 and AAZ 6042), which were apprehended in Paknaan, Mandaue City. Both also came from Bogo City.

“The office parking area is now fully occupied by colorum vehicles. We are looking for a wide area because we are determined to impound more colorum vehicles,” Cuizon said.

LTFRB and LTO are members of the Regional Management Council (RMC) 7 of DOTr, which implemented several activities during Holy Week under Oplan Biyaheng Ayos 2018.

LTO 7 Director Victor Emmanuel Caindec said they have deployed personnel in transport hubs in Region 7.

“All districts have conducted terminal and roadside inspections of public land transport vehicles,” Caindec said.

Colorum vehicles have been seen as providing unfair competition to legitimate transport companies. (EOB)
