City inspects carnival after 2 kids get stuck in mid-air ride

THE Baguio City Hall sent a team to the Children's Park after photos of two kids strapped on the seat of a carnival ride and hanging upside down went viral.

The City Engineering Office and the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) inspected the carnival Monday morning, April 2.

Videos and photos posted on social media during the weekend alarmed the city when two children were stuck upside down, close to half an hour on one of the carnival rides, before personnel were able to fix it.

Photos uploaded by MJ Leonardo-Gambulao on her social media account has gone viral enraging netizens as the children were seen upside down while waiting for rescue.

A video of the incident was likewise uploaded showing the kids desperately crying as their mother looks on helplessly.

Earlier Vice Mayor Edison Bilog also sounded the alarm over the cutting of tree branches at the area saying he will personally be going to the carnival grounds to inspect.

"Will be going there tomorrow to personally inspect, the sad part is that those trimmings was made before it was put up," said Bilog.

The city official said the council can order the closure of the carnival but there is a slim chance it will happen as majority of the legislative body voted for its set-up.

SunStar Baguio sources reveal there have been alleged payoff to the city council with one councilor receiving P500,000 while P1.5 million were divided among the rest of the councilors.

Before the Holy Week break, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said a tight watch will be up for the carnival amid complaints on safety were received.

Backed by council approval, Domogan earlier set the green light for carnival operations to 60 days until June.

Under the agreement, the carnival pays the lease price of P500,000 with a 50,000 bond paid to the city in case of damage to the park.
