Couple hacked, shot in Asturias, Cebu

A MAN died, while his wife was injured after they were hacked and shot by unidentified men past 7 p.m. Monday, April 2, inside their house in Sitio Saksak, Barangay Owak, Asturias, Cebu.

Senior Police Officer 1 Nilo Aventurado, in a phone interview, identified the fatality as Emiliano Bantoy, 79. He was known in the village as a folk doctor.

Emiliano's wife, Juanita Jubay Bantoy, 75, suffered injuries in different parts of her body.

The Bantoys had tended their farm before the incident. When they arrived home to rest, two unidentified men arrived and asked Emiliano to go with them to Balamban, Cebu, as they have a sick patient.

Emiliano refused as it was already evening and he had stopped healing the sick.

The men left the couple's house, but they returned. One of the culprits hacked Juanita.

Emiliano fought off the attacker, but he was hacked and shot in the forehead.

The culprits escaped on a motorcycle. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
