SC sets oral arguments for quo warranto petition vs Chief Justice

THE Supreme Court (SC) has granted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno's plea to hear on oral arguments the quo warranto petition filed against her.

SC spokesperson Atty. Theodore Te said the oral arguments will be held at the SC session hall in Baguio City at 2 p.m. of April 10.

The SC en banc instructed Sereno to personally attend the proceedings.

In the en banc session Tuesday, April 3, the SC also junked the motion filed by several leaders of progressive groups led by lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc to intervene in the case against the Chief Justice.

Members of the Makabayan bloc, including Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Zarate, Gabriela Representatives Emmi de Jesus and Arlene Brosas, and Act Teachers Representatives Antonio Tinio and France Castro, asserted in their petition that they will be deprived of their right to vote on Sereno's impeachment if the SC will act on the quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General over Sereno's non-filing of her Statement of Assets Liabilities and Net Worth.

The Makabayan bloc has yet to comment on the issue.

The SC, in its session Tuesday, also noted the motion for leave to file and admit attached opposition-in-intervention filed by the Board of Governors in the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. (SunStar Philippines)
