Reluya, hubby, 6 others face graft raps

THE owner of a firm overseeing the construction of a multi-million port project in San Fernando, Cebu filed a complaint against Mayor Neneth Reluya, her husband, and six others before the Office of the Ombudsman.

In his complaint, First Sangat president Ruben Feliciano claimed that Mayor Reluya and the seven other respondents violated the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practice Act for allegedly selling the town’s unserviceable municipal vehicles and heavy equipment without a proper bidding.

The other respondents are the mayor’s husband, Barangay Panadtaran Chief Ricardo Reluya; San Fernando municipal engineer Simeon Lauronal; spouses Ana Liza and Randolf Garcia; and municipal motor pool staff members Eutiquio Sebial, Maria Jelyn Paradero and Christine Sasil.

The mayor denied the allegations and questioned the motive behind the complaint.

In his complaint, Feliciano claimed that the mayor, Ricardo and Lauronal sold various scraps and unserviceable equipment without a public bidding from July to August last year.

He alleged that the scrap iron was sold to the Garcia couple, whom Feliciano identified as owners of Bretzel Enterprise based in Barangay Pitalo. The Garcias, Feliciano said, are also casual employees of the Municipal Government.

Feliciano said that personnel assigned at the town’s motor pool section cut, weighed, and loaded the unserviceable equipment, office furniture, fixtures and other scrap metal behind the town hall.

Feliciano’s complaint was lodged before the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City last March 23.

Sought for comment, the mayor said that Feliciano’s complaint reeked of different motives.

Neneth said that last February, she issued an executive order preventing Feliciano from developing a 23-hectare area in Barangay Sangat as a private port.

She cited the complaint of some fishers in the area and the failed partnership of Feliciano and Melekon Contractors Inc. as her bases in issuing the order.

She also believed that Feliciano is being used by her political rivals to run after her.

“Mura naman og nagsugod na ang akong kontra og demolition job sa akoa. Molihok na gyud sila kay hapit naman ang election,” she added. (JKV)
