Musical show to feature Negrense’s rich history

A NEGROSANON musical show entitled “Panaad: The Promise Fulfilled,” scheduled on April 18 will highlight the rich history of Negros from the 1970’s to 1990’s.

This is part of the 25th Panaad sa Negros Festival.

The musical show in collaboration with Kalipay Negrense Foundation Inc. aims to showcase not just the produce and culture of Negros but also a testament of its rich history with artistic prominence from the seasoned performers of Negros Occidental, including Kuh Ledesma, Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro, Emcy Corteza, Audie Gemora, Vanya Castor and Carlos Sison.

It will be held at SMX Bacolod Convention Center in Bacolod City.

The show is mainly a musical play based on the story of Negros Occidental through the “golden age” of the sugar industry, a period that saw great changes in the economy and cultural philosophy of the province and its people.

The musical will offer a mix of original songs and classic Ilonggo tunes.

It also follows two fictitious families in a fictitious town – one haciendero family and the other an encargado family, with both heads of the families trying to cope with the enormous pressures that the times have brought upon them.

It will also feature also a love story between a young man and woman, a love story that is tested by cultural prejudices and the loneliness of being torn apart by the Great Diaspora of the 80’s.

Proceeds of the event will be for the benefit of Recovered Treasures Children’s Home under Kalipay Negrense Foundation Inc., a non-profit foundation working for the causes of disadvantaged children – the homeless, physically and sexually abused, malnourished, out-of-school and special children.

Tickets are available at the Negros Occidental Provincial Planning and Development Office with telephone numbers (034) 703-2270 or 213-1338.

It is also available at Kalipay Negrense Foundation, Inc., Negros Showroom, ANP OurFood Market, and Bob’s Restaurant. (PR)
