Village official nabbed for illegal gun possession

A VILLAGE official was arrested for illegal possession of firearms in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Thursday, April 5.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested official as Zendil Zamora, a councilor in the village of Poblacion, Mahayag town.

Galvez said Zamora was arrested around 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Purok 2 in the village of Poblacion, Mahayag municipality.

Galvez said Zamora was arrested after the police have received report that a village official was seen carrying firearms in the vicinity of the Senior Citizen’s Building at Purok 2, Poblacion.

She said Zamora was arrested after he failed to show pertinent documents authorizing him to carry and possess a handgun.

She added that confiscated from Zamora’s possession was a caliber .45 pistol and seven ammunition.

She said the village office was detained while appropriate case for violation of Republic Act 10591 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013 is set to file against him. (SunStar Philippines)
