Golf: The 2018 Masters, this week

WHAT we golfers are waiting for, the most prestigious major tournament on the PGA Tour—The Masters, it is happening now. Tune in to your favorite sports channel and watch it live. The 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National is from April 5 to 8, 2018.

Among the usual stars in golf playing in the tournament is Tiger Woods! All the more reason to watch, right? He is back in action and hopefully his back problems won’t come back. You will see your favorite players too. I am sure Tiger’s presence is a threat to some of them. Let’s face it. Weren’t you excited to learn that he is back playing on the PGA Tour? I was. The PGA Tour got more interesting!

It is April already. How time flies. For most golfers, the year starts with preparing for the PAL Interclub which is scheduled in February. Teams are usually finalizing their line-up from January to February, and then they start practicing for the competition.

This PAL Interclub golf competition is the most fun competition ever! Ask the guys. They look forward to this every year. They become little boys. The bonding, the camaraderie, that is their priority. Winning is secondary. All about fun. Always, basta PAL Interclub.

By the way, Congratulations to the Seniors Team of Rancho Palos Verdes, Team Champion in the Sportswriters Division of the 32nd PAL Seniors Interclub in Bacolod City. Yehey! The players: Randy Cadiogan, Joe Tesado, Abraham Dizon, Lito Dublan, Deo Cura, Jun Serado, Noe Taojo and Elias Arriba. Congrats! Congrats!

After February, many players look forward to the Phoenix Petroleum Open Golf tournament, powered by Phoenix PULSE Technology, which is usually scheduled around the Araw ng Dabaw, middle of March. Among all the local tournaments, this tournament, for me, is the most prestigious one because it has the biggest budget, the best hole-in-one prizes, the best raffle prizes—and this year, they even raffled off a brand new Tata Manza.

Co-Founder and Chairman of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Mr. Domingo Uy and Mr. Richmond Alejo of Pioneer Insurance officially turned over the key to Pocholo Reserva of Butuan City last week. Lucky guy!

So many players wanted to participate, but unfortunately, the club had to limit the number of participants. By the way, for ones who are interested, you are welcome to join the Phoenix Petroleum Golf Tournament some time around June 22, 2018 at Cebu Country Club. Do not wait until the last minute. The slots there are also limited. For more info, you may get in touch with Tournament Chairperson Ms. Liloh Evangelista at 09173620880.

Back to the Masters. Masters Chairman Fred Ridley said that they created a new competition for women and it is called the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship. And this event will kick off during The Masters week in April 2019. Lucky are those top 72 women amateurs from around the world who get to play in Augusta. Waaaaa! I was born too early. I could have prepared for this! Hehe. Joke. As if naman kaya ko.

That’s it for now. This week, it is the first major of the PGA Tour, The Masters at Augusta National. Very much looking forward to watching this.

Happy Golfing!
