More proposals up for Burnham parking

ANOTHER public consultation is set for the Burnham Park parking structure to bring more proposals for the area.

Councilor Edgar Avila, committee chair for urban planning, lands and housing will convene another round of talks with the committee on public works headed by Councilor Mylen Yaranon and the committee on traffic and transport legislation led by Councilor Benny Bomogao on the multi-level parking facility at Burnham Park, specifically at the old auditorium grounds.

Avila started the ball rolling with the first consultation last month which heard the proposal of Alexander Cruz, chairman of XRC Mall Developer Incorporated who submitted their P800 million unsolicited proposal for a long term lease under a public-private partnership (PPP) to construct at their own cost a multi-level parking that can accommodate 500 cars and 15 tourist buses, commercial mall with a pasalubong center and at least a 100-room hotel.

In the next round of consultations Avila, said Megabuild JPG Dev't. Inc. and RF Chan and associates have submitted their intent to present similar proposals for the space at the park which the council is eyeing for a parking facility to ease traffic congestion.

The consultations will discuss a parking facility and its design at the space of the old auditorium only in accordance to the University of the Cordilleras (UC) 2010 Burnham Master Development plan which was donated to the city.

The UC plan identified the old auditorium area as a parking space and added the former Philippine Tourism Authority has also approved a building in the same area in the past, but never pushed through.
