Northern Mindanao police notes a decline in focused crimes

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) in Northern Mindanao reports a decline in focused crimes and quickly attributing it to the martial law implementation and war on drugs, among others.

Police Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson, said the 8 focused crimes, such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping, and motornapping had significantly decreased in the first quarter of this year.

Gonda described the drop of the crimes a breakthrough for the region's police force.

About 56.25 percent of the murder cases are considered cleared, while 26.25 percent of it are considered solved. For motornapping incident, 45 percent of its cases are cleared and 41 percent are solved. About 71 percent of theft cases are cleared and 51 percent of it are also case closed.

About 50 percent of robbery cases are cleared while 39 percent are solved. Meanwhile, all of the carnapping cases in the first quarter of this year are solved and cleared. Physical injuries remain relatively high but 73 percent of its cases are cleared and 57 percent of the cases are solved.

For rape cases, about 93 percent are cleared while only 42 percent are solved. About 85 percent of homicide cases are cleared and 66 percent cases are solved.

Gonda also appealed to the public to help prevent crimes by reporting it immediately and cooperate with the authorities.
