After 12 years, TCC gets Ched’s nod to offer hospitality course

HOSPITALITY students of the Talisay City College will have a reason to celebrate.

This, after the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) 7 has approved the TCC’s application for government authority for its Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) last Wednesday.

The Ched’s government authority came about 12 years after the TCC started offering the course.

Dr. Richel Bacaltos, TCC president, told SunStar Cebu that with authority given by Ched for its BSHM program, the school’s past graduates can now secure the needed documents that will legitimize their completion of the course.

The school president said that the TCC now offers four courses. These are as Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEEd), Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (BSSEd), Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT), and the BSHM.

He said TCC secured the government authority for its BSHM program after completing the required facilities like mini-hotel and a laboratory.

While it took some time to secure the government authority of the course, Bacaltos said that the Talisay City Government has provided the assistance to ensure that the facilities for the program are in-place.

Bacaltos said that the government authority was the school’s gift to its graduates who have been stuck in limbo for many years since the program was offered by TCC.

Bacaltos hopes that the Ched would allow the TCC to offer additional courses soon.

During the time of former Talisay City mayor Johnny De los Reyes, TCC was hounded by controversies after it started offering programs, including masteral courses, without the required securing government authority. (JKV)
