PRO 7 to LGUs: Ban drinking in public places

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 urged local government units in Central Visayas to pass an ordinance prohibiting people from drinking in public places.

This came after police records showed that incidents of physical injuries spiked when individuals get drunk.

In the “crime days” data presented by Senior Supt. Julian Entoma during the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting yesterday, most of the incidents of physical injuries they recorded happened on Sundays.

For the first quarter of this year, 143 cases of physical injuries were recorded by PRO 7 on Sundays, 84 on Saturdays, 71 on Fridays, 80 on Thursdays, 72 on Wednesdays, 71 on Tuesdays, and 80 on Mondays.

“People go home to their provinces during weekends after their work in the city, that’s why there are many people who get drunk,” Entoma said.

PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery said that a ban on drinking in public places can help authorities address the problem.

“That could help more on peace and order kasi mayroong armas ang ating mga pulis. In the absence of this, hindi pwede maka-arrest ang ating mga pulis,” he said. (JOB)
