11 drug personalities fall; P1.6-M illegal drugs seized

ELEVEN suspected pushers were caught in separate operations in the cities of Mandaue, Cebu, and Toledo in the past two days, yielding P1.6 million worth of illegal drugs.

The biggest haul happened yesterday in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City after anti-narcotics operatives caught Barbara May Fernandez, who is six months pregnant with her second child, and her alleged customer Raniel Murillo Garrido.

Seized from the suspects, who were arrested in a rented apartment, were 125 grams of suspected shabu.

Supt. Glenn Mayam, Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) 7 chief, said that Fernandez, who is also known as Bam-Bam, had been identified as one of the big-time distributors of illegal drugs in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue.

The Cebu City Police Office had listed the 21-year-old suspect as a high-value target. She allegedly has a contact among inmates of Naga City Jail.

The operation was done by personnel of DEG national headquarters, Regional Intelligence Division-Central Visayas, DEG-Central Visayas, Provincial Intelligence Branch and Mandaue City Police Station 3.

Mayam described Fernandez as elusive and said she can often dispose of 200 grams to a kilo of shabu per week.

Fernandez told reporters that her commission ranges from P1,500 to P10,000, depending on the amount of illegal drugs sold. She later retracted her statement, saying that her relative is the drug trafficker.

Garrido, for his part, knelt and asked for forgiveness from the police, saying that he has two children to feed.

In Barangay Looc, police captured Sheilamar Ferrer dela Torre and Aljie Preglo Cabada at 7:30 p.m. last Thursday.

Dela Torre is reportedly the girlfriend of alleged drug lord Steve Go, nephew of slain former Talisay City councilor Emil Go.

Two hours earlier, Rhea Nacua Calvo, Maricel Fernandez Caballes, Cromwell Cunag Nacua, Ruel Bawiga Ponteras and Jake Remulta Endiola were caught in Sitio San Roque, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City. Police seized 16 grams of suspected shabu worth P188,000 from them.

Also last Thursday, Dale Cyrus Jeresen Orat and Mayflor Catigbe Montesa were arrested at 2 p.m. in Sitio Luray I, Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City. Operatives seized 0.15 gram of illegal drugs worth P1,500 from them.

Suspects will face complaints for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (KAL)
