MisOr bags two nat’l awards in agriculture

MISAMIS Oriental bested all other provinces across the country as it bagged two national awards in the field of agriculture.

With the full support of the Provincial Government, the province received the Gawad Saka 2017 award as the most outstanding Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council (PAFC) while the town of Laguindingan won the Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan (MMK) award.

President Rodrigo Duterte personally handed over the plaques of commendation to Governor Yevgeny Emano, PAFC and Laguindingan town officials at the Malacanan Palace on Thursday, April 5.

The PAFC is a group of farmers and fisher folks associations in the province.

Dr. Benjamin Resma, chief of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), said national evaluators from the different government offices and other sectors have conducted the assessment.

He said all provinces in the country were evaluated for the Most Outstanding PAFC, but Misamis Oriental solely bagged the award.

On the other hand, the municipality of Laguindingan was among the five finalists which was being evaluated and eventually succeeded for the MMK.

The capitol received plaques, trophies, P50,000 cash prize and P300,000 worth of projects.

Resma said part of the criteria is based on the plans and programs implemented by the Provincial Government to elevate the status of farmers and fisher folks.

Emano has been consistent in supporting these sectors by giving livelihood to the community through the “Itikian sa Kalambuan,” and providing seeds, fertilizers and technical assistance to the farmers.

The capitol is also active in supporting the coastal town of Laguindingan in ensuring that fisher folks do not practice illegal fishing and maintaining the mangrove plantation which has become an eco-tourism site.

“Nangulo ang capitol sa pag-monitor ug pag-implement sa mga program ug paghatag ayuda sa pagtanom sa mga bakhaw,” Resma said.

Emano lauded the cooperation of all concerned stakeholders as he raise the challenge to work hard to sustain its status as he vowed to pour out more support and services for these sectors.
